Two corporators from the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party have been booked along with nine others over alleged vandalism, theft and unauthorised entry at a Pune Municipal Corporation-run study centre and library in Parvati, according to a complaint registered with Parvati police.
The accused have been identified as Suraj Lokhande and Priya Gadade-Patil, along with nine supporters. The complaint alleges that the group entered the civic-run premises without prior permission, damaged furniture and other property, and took away items from the study centre and library.
The complainant has also alleged that the accused used casteist slurs against him after he questioned them about the incident. The case includes provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, along with allegations relating to unauthorised entry, vandalism and theft.
According to the complaint, the confrontation took place after the group entered the study centre and library without authorisation. The complainant alleged that he was abused and insulted in public when he objected to their presence and questioned them about the alleged damage.
The facility is operated by the Pune Municipal Corporation and serves as a civic study centre and library. The complaint does not provide further details in the supplied report about the extent of the property damage, the items allegedly taken or the reason the accused entered the premises.
The case places a public civic facility at the centre of a police investigation involving elected representatives and their supporters. Study centres and libraries run by municipal bodies are public assets, and allegations of damage or unauthorised access raise questions about the protection and administration of shared urban facilities.
Parvati police have registered the case against all 11 accused and are investigating the allegations. The supplied report does not state whether any arrests have been made or whether the accused have issued a response to the complaint.
