Pune-Nashik Highway Truck Fire Slows Traffic Near Alekhind

A goods truck caught fire on the Pune-Nashik Highway near Alekhind in Junnar on Saturday morning, destroying much of its cabin and front section, while the driver escaped safely after stopping the vehicle on the roadside.

According to a report by Lokmat – Pune, the truck was travelling along the highway when smoke began emerging from its cabin. The driver noticed the danger, immediately pulled the vehicle towards the edge of the highway and got out before the fire spread.

The flames quickly engulfed the front portion of the truck and sent thick black smoke across the surrounding area. The fire caused extensive damage to the cabin and the front part of the goods vehicle. No injuries or deaths were reported in the incident.

The exact cause of the fire has not been established. A preliminary assessment indicated that a short circuit inside the vehicle may have triggered the blaze, but the report said this remained an initial possibility rather than a confirmed finding.

The incident affected traffic movement on the Pune-Nashik Highway for some time. Vehicles moved more slowly as the burning truck was dealt with and the area was brought under control. Local residents and the administration assisted in managing the situation, after which traffic movement returned to normal.

The driver’s decision to stop the truck and leave the vehicle promptly prevented the fire from causing a larger incident on the highway. The episode nevertheless resulted in substantial financial damage to the truck and highlighted the immediate risks posed when a vehicle develops smoke or fire while in motion.

The report did not provide details of the truck’s cargo, the vehicle’s owner, the response time of emergency services or any further investigation into the suspected electrical fault. The vehicle’s exact fire cause remains pending confirmation.
