The Pune Municipal Corporation has barred a former deputy mayor from entering its premises until further orders after a woman employee in the municipal secretary department filed a complaint alleging misconduct, according to the civic administration and the corporation’s Vishakha Committee chairperson.
The complaint was submitted after an incident in the department office during a break in a standing committee meeting on Thursday. Employees and officers from the municipal secretary department were present at the corporation for official work, while some staff members had left the office for lunch.
According to the complaint, the former deputy mayor, who had also served as a municipal councillor, entered the office while the woman employee was working alone. She alleged that the former office-holder held her hand and behaved inappropriately. The complaint also alleged that the former deputy mayor spoke to her in abusive or indecent language.
The employee reportedly freed herself and informed senior officials about the incident. The senior officials heard her account and offered her support, the report said. The complaint was subsequently filed before the corporation’s Vishakha Committee, which handles such workplace-related complaints within the municipal administration.
The allegation has led to anger among sections of the municipal workforce. The administration has since prohibited the former deputy mayor from entering the Pune Municipal Corporation premises until further instructions. The report did not identify the former deputy mayor by name.
Nisha Chavan, chairperson of the Vishakha Committee and the Pune Municipal Corporation’s legal adviser, confirmed that the complaint had been received. “The complaint has been received and appropriate action will be taken according to the rules,” she said, as reported by Pudhari.
The immediate administrative response combines a restriction on access to the civic premises with a formal review through the committee. The supplied report does not state whether the committee has completed its inquiry, whether the former deputy mayor has responded to the allegation, or what further disciplinary or legal steps may follow.
The matter will now proceed according to the committee’s rules and the municipal administration’s next actions. Any final finding will depend on the inquiry into the complaint and the responses of the parties involved.
