The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited (MSRDC) is making significant strides in the construction of the ‘Missing Link’ project on the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway, commonly known as the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.
This ambitious endeavour aims to bridge the gap between Khopoli Exit and Kusgaon, shaving off 6 kilometres from the existing route and promising commuters a substantial timesaving of approximately 25 minutes. At the forefront of this initiative are the completion of two tunnels, measuring 1.67 kilometres and 8.92 kilometres respectively, along with ongoing work on the Dari Bridge. These critical infrastructure components are integral to the success of the missing link project, which seeks to optimize travel efficiency between Pune and Mumbai. Once finalised, the project will introduce a new eight-level road system, incorporating two tunnels and two viaducts, providing commuters with a viable alternative to the arduous 6-kilometre detour through Bhor Ghat. The tunnels, boasting a width of 23.5 metres, have been strategically constructed to facilitate seamless traffic flow in both directions. Notably, one-kilometre tunnel caters to traffic from Mumbai to Pune, while the longest nine-kilometre tunnel facilitates travel in the opposite direction.
Officials from the MSRDC are optimistic about achieving project completion within the next three to four months, marking a significant milestone in enhancing connectivity and travel convenience along the Pune-Mumbai corridor. By addressing challenges such as high elevation changes and frequent landslides, the missing link project seeks to mitigate disruptions and streamline traffic flow, particularly during the challenging monsoon season. The strategic location of the missing link project, spanning from Khopoli exit to Kusgaon, addresses critical intersections along the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and National Highway No.4. With its comprehensive approach to infrastructure development, the MSRDC aims to optimise road connectivity, enhance travel efficiency, and elevate the overall commuting experience for residents and travellers alike. As the missing link project progresses towards completion, it heralds a new era of faster, safer, and more efficient travel between Pune and Mumbai, reinforcing Maharashtra’s commitment to infrastructure development and economic growth.
