Pune: Traffic has resumed on the Mumbai-bound carriageway of the Missing Link section of the Mumbai–Pune Expressway after an extended closure caused by a monsoon-triggered landslide. The reopening restores a critical transport connection between Maharashtra’s two largest urban economies while underscoring the importance of resilient infrastructure management during increasingly intense rainfall events.
The expressway corridor had remained closed for several hours after heavy overnight rainfall destabilised a hillside near one of the tunnel approaches, sending rocks, mud and debris onto the carriageway. Emergency authorities diverted vehicles immediately while engineering teams cleared the affected stretch and conducted structural and geotechnical inspections before permitting traffic to resume.
