Pune Metro Work Triggers Major Traffic Changes Near Market Yard

Traffic movement in Pune’s Market Yard and Pune-Satara Road areas has been changed because of underground metro construction between Swargate and Katraj, with right turns banned at Pushpamangal Chowk and Utsav Hotel Chowk from Monday, October 19, until further orders.

The trial restrictions were announced by Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Sandeep Bhajibhakare of the Pune traffic branch. The changes are intended to prevent congestion around the construction zone and will require motorists to use designated U-turns and alternative routes.

Vehicles arriving from Upper Bibwewadi through Chandralok Chowk will not be allowed to turn right at Pushpamangal Chowk towards Swargate, Market Yard or Utsav Hotel. These vehicles must turn left, take a U-turn at Araneshwar bus stop in front of the Tanishq showroom and then proceed towards Swargate.

Vehicles travelling from Pushpamangal Chowk towards Market Yard or Utsav Hotel Chowk will also be barred from making a right turn. The traffic police have directed motorists to continue ahead and take a U-turn near Adinath Society before proceeding to their destinations.

A separate restriction will apply to vehicles travelling from Market Yard or Utsav Hotel Chowk towards Swargate. Such vehicles cannot turn right and must either travel via Pushpamangal Chowk, Tanishq showroom and Araneshwar bus stop to take a U-turn, or use the route through Vakharia Corporation Chowk.

Traffic heading towards Satara, Katraj and Bibwewadi will be diverted through Pushpamangal Chowk. Vehicles travelling from Swargate towards Satara Road, as well as those coming from Market Yard towards Satara, Katraj and Bibwewadi, will use the stretch near Wellness Medical and Bhapkar petrol pump before passing through the junction.

The restrictions are being implemented as a trial and will remain in force until further instructions. The traffic branch has asked citizens to use the alternative routes and cooperate with traffic police personnel and volunteers deployed in the area.
