Pune Metro Work Triggers Bus, Heavy Vehicle Ban on Kothrud Route

Pune traffic police have temporarily banned heavy vehicles, state transport buses and private passenger buses travelling from Chandani Chowk towards Kothrud because of metro construction on the Vanaz–Chandani Chowk stretch of Paud Road. A diversion through Dukkar Khind and Warje Junction has been announced to prevent congestion and improve safety on the narrowed section.

The restriction covers Hyva vehicles, dumpers, concrete mixers, trucks and other heavy vehicles, along with ST buses and private passenger buses. Vehicles used for essential services have been exempted from the order issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Sandeep Bhajibhakre on Tuesday, October 27.

According to the traffic police order, construction work is under way between Vanaz and Chandani Chowk, where barricading is being installed on both sides of the road divider. The approach from Chandani Chowk towards Kothrud Depot is narrow and includes a steep descent, increasing the possibility of traffic congestion as work progresses.

To manage the movement of vehicles, a height barricade will be installed on the road in front of Prathamesh Elite Society. The restriction is intended to prevent buses and heavy vehicles from entering a section where the available carriageway has been reduced by construction activity.

Vehicles travelling from Chandani Chowk towards Kothrud have been directed to follow the route through Chandani Chowk, Dukkar Khind, Warje Junction, Ambedkar Chowk and Vandevi Chowk. They can then continue via Karve Road and Paud Phata towards their destinations.

The diversion changes the operating route for large passenger vehicles approaching Kothrud from the Chandani Chowk side. For commuters, the immediate effect will be on bus movements and travel through the Chandani Chowk–Kothrud corridor, while the traffic police will regulate vehicles around the barricaded section and the designated alternative route.

The order is currently subject to public feedback. Citizens who have suggestions or objections regarding the traffic changes can submit them in writing to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Control Branch, near Yerawada Post Office, until November 10. The traffic department has said that a final order will be issued after considering the submissions received.
