Pune Metro recorded its highest reported one-day ridership during the Ganesh visarjan processions, carrying 580,280 passengers and generating reported revenue of Rs 85,61,895 over the 24-hour period from 6 am on September 25 to 6 am on September 26, according to Loksatta – Pune.
The record was reported during the city’s Ganesh immersion processions, when large crowds gathered across central Pune and other parts of the metropolitan area. The passenger count is the highest reported for Pune Metro on a single day, according to the source report.
Eleven metro stations recorded more than 20,000 passengers each during the 24-hour period. Mahatma Phule Mandai station registered the highest footfall, with 70,375 passengers. The station was also reported to have generated revenue of Rs 9,46,235.
Deccan Gymkhana station recorded 64,938 passengers and reported revenue of Rs 7,54,129. The station’s location near major public activity areas made it one of the busiest points on the network during the immersion processions.
Swargate station recorded 48,906 passengers, generating reported revenue of Rs 6,34,912. The station is an important interchange and access point for commuters travelling towards central Pune and surrounding areas.
PCMC station recorded 43,491 passengers, with reported revenue of Rs 9,24,924, while Ramwadi station recorded 37,894 passengers and revenue of Rs 6,68,077, according to the report.
The figures show how Pune Metro was used to manage movement during one of the city’s largest annual public gatherings. The concentration of passengers at stations such as Mahatma Phule Mandai, Deccan Gymkhana and Swargate also reflects the role of the network in connecting major activity zones during periods when road traffic and crowd movement become especially intense.
The reported ridership record comes as public transport systems in Indian cities increasingly become central to managing festival-related travel, particularly when large processions and gatherings place pressure on roads. In Pune, the 24-hour passenger count provides a measure of how demand can rise sharply when metro services serve concentrated movement across multiple central locations.
