Pune Metro Padmavati Station Moves Ahead on Key Land Transfer

Pune Metro’s Padmavati underground station has moved closer to construction after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) began considering a proposal to transfer 665 square metres of municipal land in Dhankawadi to MahaMetro. The land value of ₹3.91 crore is proposed to be adjusted against the civic body’s contribution to the metro project.

The proposal is currently before the PMC’s City Improvement Committee. If cleared, it will be sent to the standing committee and then the general body for approval. The transfer cannot be completed until it passes through this prescribed civic process.

MahaMetro formally sought permanent ownership of the land in a letter dated January 9, 2026. The requested area forms part of a 702-square-metre plot located at survey numbers 19A/4A and 19A/4B in Dhankawadi. The site is required for constructing Padmavati station on the underground corridor planned between Swargate and Katraj.

The amount proposed for adjustment is twice the assessed value of the land, according to the proposal. Rather than treating the transaction as a standalone payment, the PMC plans to account for the ₹3.91 crore against its financial contribution to the metro project.

The plot has previously been used for public infrastructure and rehabilitation purposes. It was initially acquired for a truck terminal and was later used to accommodate businesses from Sadashiv Peth that were affected by the Hanging Garden reservation. The land is designated for municipal purposes under the development plan approved in 2017.

Because the proposed transfer involves land reserved for civic use, the PMC has initiated the statutory process under Section 81(B) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act. Notices were served on affected parties, who submitted written objections and sought compensation. The civic administration subsequently conducted hearings to consider their submissions.

The proposal now remains subject to review by the City Improvement Committee, followed by the standing committee and general body if it advances. Approval would allow MahaMetro to secure the land required for Padmavati station as part of the Swargate-Katraj underground metro extension.
