Pune Metro Line 3, connecting Shivajinagar with Hinjewadi, is scheduled to be inaugurated through a video conference by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 3, while foundation stones will also be laid for four new corridors under the network’s second phase. The ceremonies are scheduled to take place at 12.30 pm, according to MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar.
The 23-kilometre Shivajinagar-Hinjewadi corridor, also known as the Pink Line, is the main project covered by the inauguration programme. The line is intended to connect central Pune with the Hinjewadi area, one of the city’s major employment and technology hubs. The supplied report does not provide details on passenger operations, fare structures or the date on which regular services will begin.
Hardikar said Maharashtra’s Governor, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and other dignitaries would attend the programme. He also appealed to Pune residents to participate in the inauguration and foundation-stone ceremonies being held at the sports complex in Balewadi.
The second-phase works include extensions to the existing Line 2, which currently runs between Vanaz and Ramwadi. The western extension is planned from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk, while the eastern extension is proposed from Ramwadi through Wagholi to Vitthalwadi. Together, these two extensions are expected to cover approximately 12 kilometres and include 13 stations.
A separate Line 4 project is also included in the foundation-stone programme. Hardikar said the complete Line 4 would be approximately 29 kilometres long, with 27 proposed stations. The report describes the Line 2 extensions and Line 4 as key projects for expanding Pune’s metro coverage, although it does not specify the route alignment, construction schedule or opening timeline for Line 4.
The combined estimated cost of the Line 2 extension and Line 4 projects is approximately Rs 13,500 crore, according to Hardikar. The planned extensions would take the metro beyond its existing corridors towards areas including Chandni Chowk, Wagholi and Vitthalwadi. Their eventual effect on daily travel will depend on construction progress, station delivery and the start of passenger services.
The ceremonies mark the next formal stage in Pune’s metro expansion programme: the inauguration of Line 3 and the launch of additional projects through foundation-stone events. MahaMetro has not, in the supplied announcement, provided further implementation milestones for the new corridors.
