Pune Inner Ring Road Land Surveys Set to Begin in Four Villages

Pune’s Inner Ring Road land acquisition process has moved forward, with Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) scheduling surveys in four Mulshi villages and beginning joint surveys in Manjari Khurd and Kolwadi in Haveli taluka this month. The proposed 65-metre-wide road is intended to ease traffic congestion across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Residents of Hinjawadi, Jambe, Marunji and Nande in Mulshi have agreed to land surveys after attending pre-survey meetings conducted by PMRDA. Surveys are scheduled for October 12, 13, 15 and 17, respectively. Discussions are continuing with residents of Nere and Maan, who have raised local demands and concerns related to the acquisition process.

In Haveli, a joint survey in Manjari Khurd is scheduled to begin on October 13. Farmers at a meeting held at the Kolwadi Gram Panchayat office also agreed to a survey, which is scheduled to start on October 15. The meeting was attended by Vitthal Udmale, Deputy Collector for Land Acquisition, along with PMRDA officials, local representatives and affected farmers.

The surveys will identify the land required for the project. PMRDA officials said subsequent assessments would cover structures and assets on the affected plots, including houses, trees, wells, borewells and pipelines. After the land acquisition notification is issued, officials will obtain records of land transactions from the previous three years to help determine land values.

Compensation will be assessed using the relevant transactions and prevailing market rates, according to officials. At the Kolwadi meeting, farmers demanded compensation in line with market rates, similar to the rates sought for Manjari Khurd. Ashok Ahale, a farmer and journalist, called for an early meeting with the administration to discuss compensation, saying fair payment would be essential for the project to proceed.

Udmale said a meeting on compensation would be organised after the survey was completed and details of the affected land were made public. He said farmers’ demands would be considered and that the administration would take steps to ensure that affected farmers were not treated unfairly. “Priority is being given to farmers’ interests, and the land acquisition process is being carried out transparently,” Udmale said.

Residents of Dhamane village in Maval taluka also raised development-related suggestions and demands at a meeting at the Padmavati Devi temple. The administration said it had taken note of the proposals.

The proposed Inner Ring Road will be 65 metres wide, with nine-metre-wide service roads on both sides. PMRDA aims to complete the land acquisition process by the end of December 2026. Poonam Mehta, Joint Commissioner of PMRDA’s Land and Estate Department, said the process was being advanced through discussions with villagers, transparent procedures and a focus on the interests of affected farmers.
