MCD Clears 42 Raghubir Nagar Encroachments for Drain Project

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) removed around 42 structures built over an existing drain in Raghubir Nagar’s B-1 and K blocks on Friday, reclaiming 505 square metres of land and clearing the way for a proposed drainage project.

The demolition operation was conducted by the MCD’s West Zone team in Ward 94 with assistance from the Delhi Police. According to the civic body, the structures had obstructed construction of a new drain planned for the locality and funded through the Chief Minister’s Development Fund (CMDF).

The MCD said several multi-storey structures had been constructed over the existing drain and adjoining land, preventing work on the proposed drainage system from proceeding. The corporation had issued multiple notices seeking removal of the encroachments and asking occupants to facilitate the infrastructure project, but the structures remained in place.

During Friday’s operation, MCD field staff and police personnel cleared the structures occupying the drain and the adjacent land. The civic body said the operation concluded peacefully, with cooperation from its field teams and the police.

The removal of the encroachments is expected to allow the next stage of drainage construction to proceed in the Raghubir Nagar locality. The cleared area covers approximately 505 square metres, although the MCD has not announced when construction of the new drain will begin or provided an expected completion date.

The action is part of the corporation’s enforcement efforts against unauthorised occupation of public land and obstructions affecting essential infrastructure projects. In this case, the structures had been located directly over an existing drainage channel, limiting access for the proposed replacement or improvement work.

The MCD has maintained that clearing the site was necessary for the drainage project to move forward. The next confirmed step is the progression of construction work on the proposed drain, but the corporation has yet to disclose its implementation schedule or details of the project’s completion timeline.
