Pune Housing Lottery Deadline Extended After Certificate Backlog

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has extended the deadline for applications to its Pune housing lottery to October 22, giving applicants another week to complete their submissions and resolve pending document verification issues. The extension is the second announced for the lottery.

The earlier deadline was October 15. MHADA said the additional time was required because verification of domicile certificates and income certificates has been delayed. Applicants whose documents remain under verification can now use the extended period to complete their applications.

The lottery covers homes offered through the MHADA Pune Board’s 15% Social Housing and 20% Inclusive Housing schemes. These schemes form part of the authority’s effort to allocate housing through a regulated lottery process rather than individual property sales.

According to Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil, chairman of the MHADA Pune Board, 1,65,028 applicants had registered for the lottery by the time of the extension. Of these, 1,01,811 applicants had also paid the application deposit, indicating that a substantial number of registrations had progressed beyond the initial application stage.

Patil said 3,872 domicile certificates and 2,142 income certificates were still awaiting verification. The pending certificates were cited as the reason for extending the deadline. The figures show that documentation checks remain a significant operational stage in the application process, particularly for applicants seeking to establish eligibility under the lottery’s requirements.

For applicants, the extension changes the immediate deadline but does not remove the requirement to complete the necessary documentation. Those with certificates still under review have until October 22 to finish their applications, subject to the authority’s verification process. MHADA has not indicated in the supplied report whether another extension will be considered after the revised deadline.

The Pune lottery’s scale also highlights the gap between demand for regulated housing and the number of homes available through public housing programmes. With more than 165,000 registrations and over 101,000 deposits reported, the application process has drawn participation far beyond the number of successful allotments, although the supplied information does not state the total number of homes included in this lottery.

The revised October 22 deadline is the next milestone for applicants. MHADA’s verification of domicile and income certificates will determine which applications proceed to the lottery stage.
