Pune civic and police authorities have jointly inspected major Ganeshotsav procession routes in the city’s central areas and directed departments to complete road, drainage and pedestrian-safety work before the festival begins. The review covered roads with potholes, incomplete excavations, drainage problems, obstructions on footpaths and arrangements for managing traffic and large crowds.
The inspection was conducted under the chairmanship of Kasba MLA Hemant Rasane in the jurisdiction of the Kasba and Vishrambaug ward offices. Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and other officials participated in the exercise. The inspection began at the Kasba Ganpati temple.
The officials reviewed stretches and public locations connected with the festival routes, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road, Bhau Rangari Ganpati, Tambdi Jogeshwari, Kelkar Road, Pasodya Vithoba Temple, Sonya Maruti Temple, Someshwar Temple, Ranka Jewellers, Maharana Pratap Road, Kasturi Chowk, Jain Temple, Naik Hospital, Phadke Police Chowki, Seva Mitra Mandal, Mandai Ganpati, the Dagdusheth Ganpati tableau, Guruji Talim, Laxmi Road and Puram Chowk.
Ganeshotsav draws large numbers of residents and visitors to Pune’s central areas to watch processions, visit public displays and seek darshan at different Ganesh mandals. Authorities therefore instructed the concerned departments to address the remaining road defects and other obstacles before the festival period. Some roads along the procession routes were found to have potholes, while the condition of certain stretches was described as poor.
The instructions also covered roads excavated for work by Mahavitaran and departments providing essential services. These agencies were asked to plan the restoration of excavated roads. New road digging during Ganeshotsav is to be avoided as far as possible, while old and delayed excavation work is to be completed urgently and the affected roads levelled before the celebrations.
The municipal roads department was further told not to treat repair work as complete merely on the basis of paperwork. Officials directed the department to conduct physical inspections and verify the quality of the repairs on site. The joint review also included traffic arrangements for the central city, where crowd movement and processions are expected to increase during the festival.
The inspection comes as preparations accelerate with only a few days remaining before Ganeshotsav. The civic and police administrations’ immediate focus is on completing pending road and utility-related work, removing pedestrian obstructions and ensuring that the identified procession routes are ready before festival activity begins.
