Premier Energies Commissions ₹3,293 Crore Solar Cell Plant in Andhra

Premier Energies has commissioned a 7 GW N-type Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) solar cell manufacturing facility at Naidupeta in Andhra Pradesh, taking the company’s total solar cell capacity to 10.6 GW.

The facility was developed at a capital expenditure of ₹3,293 crore and is spread across 101 acres. Premier Energies said the plant can produce approximately 88,000 solar cells per hour and is designed to manufacture high-efficiency G12R solar cells.

The commissioning expands India’s domestic manufacturing base for advanced solar cells at a time when developers and equipment suppliers are seeking greater availability of locally produced components. The company said the facility would support higher supply reliability and operating efficiency as its production lines stabilise and ramp up.

“We remain positive on the outlook for orders, pricing and demand for high-efficiency solar products. As the line stabilises and ramps up, it gives us the scale to serve that demand with greater supply reliability and operating efficiency,” Premier Energies managing director Chiranjeev Saluja said.

The Naidupeta plant will use advanced digital systems and artificial intelligence for predictive performance analysis, tighter process control and precision manufacturing, according to the company. It is also designed to allow future upgrades to TOPCon+ technologies, including poly-finger metallisation and advanced edge isolation.

The new facility comes as Premier Energies expands beyond its existing solar cell and module operations. Earlier this month, the company entered into a binding term sheet with RCT India, part of Germany’s RCT Group, to establish a 12 GWh battery energy storage system manufacturing facility in Telangana. The proposed battery plant would add storage manufacturing to the company’s clean-energy portfolio, although the supplied announcement does not provide a commissioning schedule for that project.

Premier Energies received orders worth ₹3,011 crore during the first quarter of financial year 2026-27. These orders cover the supply of 1,846 MW of solar cells and modules, with deliveries scheduled across FY27 and FY28.

The Hyderabad-based company reported a more than 53 per cent year-on-year increase in net profit to ₹471.9 crore during the quarter. Its total income rose to ₹2,507.6 crore from ₹1,869.5 crore a year earlier, driven by increased revenue from key business segments.

The commissioning is part of a wider three-year capital expenditure programme of ₹12,500 crore. Premier Energies said the programme is intended to more than double its solar manufacturing capacity, expand backward integration into ingots and wafers, and diversify into inverters, transformers and battery energy storage systems.

The company’s next operational focus will be stabilising and ramping up the Naidupeta production line while executing deliveries linked to orders scheduled for FY27 and FY28.
