Pune: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has taken decisive action in response to the severe flooding caused by continuous heavy rainfall in the district. The PMRDA’s Disaster Management Department has mobilised three specialised teams equipped with advanced rescue equipment to address the emergency.
The PMRDA’s Fire Brigade has been at the forefront of rescue operations, swiftly responding to the crisis. Officials have been directed to implement immediate measures to manage the situation effectively. The flooding, which occurred on Thursday, July 25, severely affected areas such as Ekta Nagar and its surroundings. In response, PMRDA deployed three teams, two rubber boats, and additional rescue equipment to assist in the ongoing efforts. These teams have been working in coordination with the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Fire Brigade to maximise the efficiency of the rescue operations.
Significant rescue efforts have also been carried out in other parts of the city. The PMRDA’s Fire Brigade has been active in housing societies in Sus and Bavdhan, ensuring the safety and evacuation of residents. In Kirkatwadi, a road was obstructed by a fallen tree, causing a traffic disruption. The PMRDA’s teams promptly cleared the obstruction, restoring normal traffic flow. In Vishrantwadi, two teams from the Wagholi Fire Station have been deployed to manage the situation effectively. Continuous water discharge from the Khadakwasla Dam has necessitated the closure of the bridge connecting Nanded and Shivane for vehicular traffic, a measure taken by the PMRDA’s Fire Brigade to ensure public safety.
One of the most notable rescue efforts included the evacuation of seven individuals from a residential building in Shanti Nagar. PMRDA’s Chief Fire Officer, along with other senior officials and personnel, has been closely monitoring the situation to ensure a coordinated and effective response. The PMRDA’s proactive approach and efficient deployment of resources highlight its commitment to managing disaster situations and ensuring the safety of Pune’s residents. The swift actions taken by the Disaster Management Department underscore the importance of preparedness and quick response in mitigating the impact of natural calamities.
As the water levels recede and the immediate crisis subsides, the PMRDA will continue to assess the situation and provide necessary support to the affected areas. The collaborative efforts between the PMRDA and PMC’s Fire Brigade exemplify the coordinated approach required to tackle such emergencies effectively. The flood situation in Pune serves as a reminder of the critical need for robust disaster management systems and the importance of community resilience in facing natural disasters. The PMRDA’s actions during this crisis reflect a well-orchestrated response aimed at protecting lives and restoring normalcy in the affected regions.
