Pimpri-Chinchwad traffic changes will affect buses, private vehicles and heavy transport across several parts of the city during Ganesh immersion processions between 14 and 25 September, as the traffic police introduce temporary road closures and diversions to manage crowds and prevent congestion.
The restrictions were issued under the Motor Vehicles Act by Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikrant Deshmukh. Internal roads in key traffic divisions will remain closed or regulated during specified periods to allow immersion processions and devotees to move through the city.
In the Bhosari and Chikhali divisions, entry for PMPML buses below the Bhosari bridge will be closed at specified times from 14 to 25 September. The buses will instead operate through Panjarpol or Magazine Chowk. Vehicles travelling from Khadki towards Phugewadi via Harris Bridge will be directed through the grade separator.
In the Chikhali area, traffic on the Alandi Road will be diverted towards Bharatmata Chowk. The changes are intended to keep traffic moving around areas expected to see higher pedestrian and procession activity during the festival period.
Heavy vehicles will face restrictions in the Talegaon division on 20 September between Talegaon and HP Chowk. These vehicles will be diverted through Wadgaon Phata, Navlakh Umbre and Chakan. Roads around Maruti Mandir Chowk, Jijamata Chowk and the Dolasnath Temple area will also remain closed during the specified period.
In the Sangvi and Wakad divisions, private vehicles will not be allowed on the route between Maheshwari Chowk in Sangvi, Juna Sangvi Road, Kranti Chowk and Famous Chowk on 20 September. Vehicles travelling towards Aundh will have to use the Katepuram and Mayurnagari routes. In Wakad, traffic on Datta Mandir Road will be diverted towards Kaverinagar and Kaspute Corner from 23 to 25 September.
The Nigdi and Chinchwad divisions will see wider closures on 25 September. Roads between Ahimsa Chowk and Chaphekar Chowk, the Dalvinagar Bridge, and the route from Bhoi Ali towards Chaphekar Chowk will be completely closed. Motorists have been directed to use Link Road, Bijalinagar and Khandoba Mal as alternative routes.
The restrictions cover a mix of local roads, bridge approaches, public transport corridors and routes used by heavy vehicles. Commuters travelling through Pimpri-Chinchwad will therefore need to account for route changes that vary by location and date, while PMPML operations in the Bhosari area will follow the diversions announced by the traffic police.
The temporary arrangements will remain in force according to the dates and time windows specified by the traffic branch for each division. Drivers have been advised to follow the designated alternative routes while the immersion processions are under way.
