Para-athlete Neeraj Yadav, who represented India and won medals at the Asian Para Games, was found unconscious near Maujpur Metro station in northeast Delhi after dropping a woman friend there by car, and was later declared dead at a hospital. Jafrabad police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the 42-year-old’s death.
According to the report, Yadav had travelled from Sonipat to Maujpur on Tuesday night with the woman. He was found lying unconscious on a road near the metro station some time after she had left. The woman took him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police are conducting an inquiry under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The woman told investigators that she had been friends with Yadav since December 2025. The report does not establish how Yadav became unconscious or the cause of death, and the circumstances remain under investigation.
Yadav was born on February 10, 1984, in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, and lived with his family in Devli Khanpur, Delhi. He was married and is survived by his wife and a three-year-old daughter. He also ran an online sports academy called Anshneer Sports Academy in Sonipat.
Yadav developed polio at the age of seven. He initially competed in wheelchair tennis for about seven years before moving to para-athletics in 2015. He competed in javelin throw, discus throw and shot put, training at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi.
At the 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta, Yadav won gold in the men’s F-55 javelin event after recording 29.84 metres, described in the report as an Asian record. At the 2023 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, he won gold medals in javelin throw and discus throw. The report also lists gold medals at the 2022 Para Athletics Grand Prix in Marrakech and the 2015 Delhi State Athletics Championships. It states that the Asian Para Games medals were later withdrawn, without providing further details.
His death has drawn condolences from India’s para-sport community. The Paralympic Committee of India said his death was a major loss to Indian sport and expressed sympathy to his family. Paralympic medallist Yogesh Kathuniya said he credited Yadav with helping him in his career and described his guidance and support as memorable.
The case places the focus on the police inquiry into an unexplained death in a public area near a major Delhi Metro station. Further findings from Jafrabad police and the medical investigation will be necessary to establish what happened before Yadav was found unconscious and the cause of his death.
