A 22-year-old biker was killed after being hit by a Delhi Transport Corporation bus in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh on Wednesday morning, with police examining CCTV footage to identify the vehicle and its driver.
The deceased was identified as Sonu, a resident of Indira Colony. According to the report citing Deputy Commissioner of Police Harsh Vardhan Swami, Punjabi Bagh police received a PCR call about the crash at around 7:23 am.
Investigating officers reached the spot after receiving the alert and found that the biker had been run over by a DTC bus. Sonu died in the accident, the report said.
Police have not yet publicly identified the bus involved in the crash. Investigators are examining CCTV cameras installed at the accident site and in nearby areas to establish the vehicle’s identity and trace its driver.
The police inquiry is focused on reconstructing how the collision occurred and determining the bus’s movements around the time of the crash. The supplied report does not provide details about the exact road location, the direction of travel, the condition of the traffic signal or whether any arrest has been made.
Sonu lived with his family in a slum settlement in Indira Colony, according to the report. His death brings renewed attention to the risks faced by two-wheeler users on Delhi’s busy roads, where buses, motorcycles and other traffic share constrained urban corridors. However, the circumstances and responsibility in this specific crash remain subject to the police investigation.
Police said further action would be taken according to law after the investigation, including the identification of the bus and driver through CCTV and other evidence.
