Panvel Ganeshotsav traffic plan: Police announce parking sites, diversions, road closures and enforcement measures to manage festival crowds in the city market area.
The Panvel city traffic police have introduced a special traffic plan for the Ganeshotsav period, including designated parking areas, route diversions, road closures, barricading and action against roadside encroachments in the city’s market area. Police have appealed to residents not to park vehicles on roads and to use the parking spaces identified by the administration.
The plan was prepared through coordination meetings involving the police, Panvel Municipal Corporation, elected representatives and Ganeshotsav mandals. The designated parking areas include the Marathi school opposite Fadke Natyagruha, the new tehsil office, spaces behind and in front of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue at Tपाल Naka, an area near Karnala Circle, land belonging to Vilas Kothari on Line Ali Road, and an open space in front of the D.Ed. College behind the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar statue.
Some of these spaces had not been cleaned by the municipal corporation when the report was published, raising concerns about when temporary parking facilities would be made ready. Depending on traffic conditions, the police plan to introduce one-way movement, odd-even parking arrangements and barricading in congested areas.
The authorities have also fixed a loading and unloading window for heavy and large vehicles serving traders between Uran Naka and Tपाल Naka. Commercial loading and unloading in this stretch will be permitted from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., according to the traffic police department.
Under the diversion plan, rickshaws and cars will not be allowed to enter the Uran Naka–Tपाल Naka route. These vehicles will be diverted through Uran Naka and Panchratna Circle. The route from Phool Market to the police chowky via Patel Hospital, as well as the route from Karnala Phool Market to Karmaveer Bhaurao Chowk, will remain closed to traffic during the festival period.
The authorities have also identified an alternative location for flower and leafy-vegetable sellers who conduct business on the roads. The route between Karnala Fruit Market and Karmaveer Bhaurao Chowk will be closed, and the space will be used to relocate these vendors. Police said the arrangement was intended to reduce crowding in busy market areas and help prevent theft incidents.
Roadside encroachments, waste and materials placed along roads and footpaths in the market area have been a concern for residents. Although municipal action is responsible for removing such obstructions, traffic police personnel began an enforcement drive on Friday morning. After the issue was brought to the attention of Panvel Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Maheshkumar Meghmale, he directed ward officers to send a team to the area and take action.
The Panvel city traffic branch will deploy 70 personnel and seven officers for Ganeshotsav arrangements. Navi Mumbai Police have also sought an additional 50 wardens from the Panvel Municipal Corporation. Senior Police Inspector Subhash Pujari said he and his staff were personally supervising enforcement on the roads and appealed to residents to follow traffic rules and use only the designated parking spaces.
The traffic police and municipal authorities are expected to continue implementing the diversions, parking arrangements and encroachment action as festival-related movement increases in Panvel’s market area.
