Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced a civil court for Chowari in Chamba district’s Bhatiyat assembly constituency on Tuesday, alongside Rs 10 crore for road projects, new CBSE-affiliated schools and a proposed monthly assistance scheme for eligible women from poor families.
Sukhu made the announcements while addressing a public meeting at Chowari Chowgan. The civil court is intended to add local access to judicial services in the constituency, while the road allocation will support projects identified for the area, according to the chief minister’s announcements reported by the Times of India.
The chief minister also said the state government would open CBSE-affiliated schools in the area based on local demand. He said the government had opened at least two or three CBSE-affiliated schools in every Vidhan Sabha segment and was upgrading more than 100 schools to the CBSE pattern. Posts for teaching staff at those schools had already been advertised, he said.
Sukhu said the government had recruited more than 2,700 teachers on merit and had rationalised educational institutions after finding that several institutions opened by the previous government did not have the required staff. He also claimed that Himachal Pradesh ranked fifth in providing quality education in 2025, compared with 21st in 2021.
The chief minister announced that the Mukhyamantri Ka Apna Parivar Sukhi Parivar Yojana would be launched from next month. Under the scheme, eligible women from poor families would receive Rs 1,500 per month, along with 300 units of free electricity each month and free medical treatment through health insurance cards.
According to Sukhu, around 20,000 women from 10,000 eligible families in the Bhatiyat constituency would benefit from the scheme. The announcement links direct household assistance with electricity and healthcare support, although the eligibility process, administrative arrangements and disbursement mechanism were not detailed in the reported remarks.
The chief minister also cited the state government’s support prices for agricultural and dairy products. He said the government was providing a minimum support price of Rs 150 per kg for raw turmeric, Rs 80 per kg for wheat and Rs 50 per kg for maize. Support prices for cow milk and buffalo milk were stated at Rs 61 and Rs 71 per litre respectively.
On healthcare infrastructure, Sukhu said Rs 190 crore had been allocated for the functioning of Chamba Medical College and that the college had been provided with 32 postgraduate seats. He said the government was pursuing reforms to extend advanced medical facilities to rural areas.
The public meeting also included a two-minute silence for Nand Lal, an MLA and chairperson of the 7th State Finance Commission, who died on Tuesday, and Youth Congress functionary Chandermani Kulethi, who died in a recent incident. The state government’s next steps on the court, road works, school openings and welfare scheme will determine when the announced measures move from public commitments to operational services.
