Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and the Telangana Electricity department have categorically debunked claims of power and water scarcity at Osmania University (OU) hostels.
These assertions come in the wake of erroneous statements made by the chief warden of OU hostels, erroneously asserting a deficit in electricity and potable water supply. According to insights provided by the Electricity Department, the Osmania University campus benefits from uninterrupted power provisions via two dedicated 11KV feeders originating from the 33/11 KV Osmania University substation. Meticulous metre assessments of the substation transformers substantiate the continuous electricity stream to the university premises. Concurrently, officials from the Hyderabad Water Board have shed light on the veracity of the warden’s claims, affirming robust water provisions to the Osmania University campus sourced from dual origins. Water influx is facilitated from Tarnaka under O&M Division 7 and the Adikmet sections under O&M Division 5.
The contractual obligation stipulates a daily supply of 455 kilolitres (KLD) via a 200-mm pipeline. However, the current supply stands at a commendable 1,194 KLD, demonstrating a substantial surplus. Similarly, while the agreement mandates 50 KLD from Adikmet through a 100 mm pipeline, the actual provision stands at 77 KLD. Overall, the water allocation surmounts to a commendable 1,271 KLD, significantly surpassing contractual commitments. Senior dignitaries from the Water Board, accompanied by pertinent assistant engineers, conducted an onsite assessment, corroborating the surplus water supply. The Water Board stands ready to furnish additional water, should the OU administration express the need for it. This authoritative clarification nullifies any misconceptions surrounding the adequacy of power and water provisions at Osmania University hostels.
