Oracle has begun a second round of layoffs in India, with employees receiving termination emails in the early hours and losing access to workplace systems, according to a report by The Times of India. People familiar with the matter estimated that between 1,000 and 1,500 employees could be affected, although the figure could not be independently verified.
The latest cuts have affected several mid- and senior-level employees working in web development and maintenance, the report said. Employees in India had been expecting termination communications after Oracle began a fresh round of global workforce reductions.
Some employees reportedly found their access to Slack revoked before receiving formal communication. A viral Reddit post described the anxiety around emails arriving between 4am and 6am, while sources cited by The Times of India said the number of active Slack users across Oracle fell to 144,638 on a Tuesday at about 9pm IST, from 149,900 a day earlier. The change suggested that more than 5,000 employees globally may have lost access over two days, though this interpretation was not independently verified.
An email sent to an affected India employee said Oracle was streamlining operations following organisational changes and that the employee’s position had become redundant. The communication said the decision had followed consideration of the company’s business needs and was linked to a restructuring exercise.
Affected employees are being relieved of their duties and placed on garden leave until their last date of employment, according to the communication. They are also eligible for severance, with HR expected to provide separation documents, package details and information on the next steps by email. Sources cited in the report said the package included one month’s pay for every completed year of service, along with two additional months’ pay.
The latest round follows an earlier wave of layoffs reported by The Times of India. An estimated 10,000 to 12,000 employees in India, out of a workforce of more than 40,000, were affected in the first phase of the cuts earlier this year. The number of employees affected in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in India during the latest round could not be independently verified.
Oracle’s disclosures showed that the company cut 21,000 jobs globally in fiscal 2026 and incurred $1.8 billion in severance costs. The company had not responded to an email seeking comment before the report was published.
The fresh reductions place renewed pressure on India’s technology employment market, particularly for mid-career and senior professionals working in enterprise software and cloud-related operations. The report also described the immediate impact on affected workers, including a junior developer who said he had no backup plan after the sudden loss of employment.
The company’s HR teams are expected to communicate separation documents, severance details and final employment dates to affected employees. The full number of India-based employees included in the latest round remains unconfirmed.
