Odisha Pushes Disaster-Resilient Infrastructure After Cyclone

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss the state’s post-cyclone situation, relief and restoration work, and measures to strengthen disaster-resilient infrastructure.

Majhi said in a social media post that the discussion covered the response to the cyclone and the restoration efforts under way in Odisha. He also expressed gratitude to the Centre for its continued support.

The meeting places disaster-resilient infrastructure alongside immediate relief and recovery as part of Odisha’s post-cyclone response. The state’s recovery requirements therefore extend beyond emergency assistance to the restoration of infrastructure and measures intended to improve resilience against future disasters.

The report did not specify the amount of relief sought, the infrastructure projects under discussion, the districts affected, or a timeline for restoration. It also did not detail any new financial package or formal decision announced after the meeting.

The Union home ministry’s role in the discussion reflects the Centre’s involvement in disaster response and recovery, while the state government remains responsible for coordinating restoration on the ground. Further details on funding, project approvals and implementation are expected to clarify how the proposed resilience measures will be carried out.

The meeting comes as Odisha continues its post-cyclone relief and restoration process, with the next steps dependent on decisions by the state and Union governments on assistance and infrastructure strengthening.
