Noida Waterlogging Traps Car in Five-Foot-Deep Underpass

Noida waterlogging trapped a Renault Triber in the Sector 95 underpass on Monday after rain filled the passage with four to five feet of water, forcing the occupants to break a window and escape. All the occupants were brought out safely before police and fire-service teams arrived, according to a report by Navbharat Times – Noida.

The car was carrying people travelling from Gurugram towards Bulandshahr when it became trapped in the flooded underpass. With water around the vehicle reaching approximately five feet, the occupants broke a window to get out of the car and avoid being trapped inside. They escaped before emergency teams reached the location.

Police said the Phase 1 police station received information through Dial 112 that rainwater had accumulated heavily in the underpass near Sector 95 and that a car was stuck in the flooded stretch. Local police and a fire-service unit were then sent to the site.

When the teams arrived, all the people travelling in the car had already reached safety. The emergency personnel subsequently tied the vehicle to a rope and pulled it out of the underpass. The operation was difficult because of the depth of the water, the report said.

The incident has again drawn attention to recurring waterlogging at the Sector 95 underpass during rain. According to the report, vehicles have been trapped at the location on earlier occasions as well, creating risks for motorists using the route. The latest incident ended without loss of life because the occupants escaped in time, but the vehicle entrapment shows how quickly a flooded underpass can become hazardous.

The report did not specify the agency responsible for the underpass’s drainage system or whether any permanent corrective work has been announced. Police and fire-service teams completed the rescue and vehicle-removal operation after receiving the emergency call.
