Noida Water Crisis Leaves 200 Families Facing Foul-Smelling Supply

About 200 families living in the Rajat Vihar Duplexes in Noida’s Sector 62 have reportedly been receiving foul-smelling water through household taps for several days, making residents reluctant to use the supply for bathing, washing utensils and other routine needs.

Residents told Navbharat Times – Noida that the odour from the water has become strong enough to make basic household work difficult. Amit Jalan, a resident of Rajat Vihar Duplexes, said the problem had continued for several days and that people were hesitant even to touch the water arriving through the supply line.

The affected supply is used for everyday activities, including preparing children for school, getting ready for work, cleaning utensils and other domestic tasks. Residents said the condition had created uncertainty over how they could continue using the water for essential household needs.

The report did not establish the cause of the odour or whether the water had been tested by an authorised laboratory. It also did not state whether the supply had been formally declared unsafe by the Noida Authority or any other agency. Residents’ concerns, however, centre on the possibility that the water could be used for drinking or cooking if an alternative supply is not arranged.

According to the report, residents of Sector 62 said they had informed officials of the Noida Authority about the problem. They alleged that the foul-smelling supply had continued even after the complaint was communicated, leaving families unsure when the issue would be resolved.

The incident highlights the dependence of residents on municipal water systems for daily life in planned urban developments. When a supply line delivers water with a strong odour, households may be forced to avoid routine uses or seek alternatives, although the report does not provide details of any replacement supply, tanker arrangement or advisory issued to residents.

Navbharat Times – Noida said it attempted to contact an official from the Noida Authority’s water department for a response. The official could not be reached by phone and did not answer the call. No explanation for the reported contamination or odour, timeline for inspection, or corrective action was available in the report.

The immediate administrative questions are whether the affected line has been inspected, whether water samples have been collected and tested, and what temporary arrangements are available to the families while the complaint is examined. Residents are awaiting action from the Noida Authority to identify the source of the problem and restore a usable water supply.
