Noida Plans 3 Metro Corridors and Rs 35,000 Crore Industrial Push

Noida Authority has proposed expanding the city across nearly 20,000 hectares to create a new industrial centre, alongside three metro corridors and 120 projects with an estimated investment of about Rs 35,000 crore. The plans were reported on October 13 and are being positioned as a major expansion of Noida’s industrial, transport and commercial base.

The proposed expansion is intended to respond to rising investment and demand from industry, while addressing the shortage of available land in the existing urban area. According to the report, land acquisition for the proposed industrial city is expected to begin shortly in phases. The authority has not provided, in the reported announcement, a detailed acquisition schedule, village-wise land plan or project-wise implementation timeline.

The authority estimates that the development of the new industrial area could create direct and indirect employment opportunities for more than five lakh young people by 2030. The reported plan links industrial growth with improvements in freight movement and passenger connectivity, suggesting that the expansion is being designed as more than a land-allocation exercise.

Three new metro corridors have been proposed to strengthen connectivity for the expanded area. The corridors are planned to connect the multimodal transport hub at Bodaki, Botanical Garden and Char Murti with Gaur City. The report does not specify the proposed length, number of stations, route alignment, implementing agency, estimated cost or approval status of the corridors. These details will be important in determining how the proposals fit into the wider transport network of Noida and the National Capital Region.

Alongside the longer-term expansion, around 120 large projects are expected to be taken forward during the forthcoming fifth Ground Breaking Ceremony. The projects are reported to have a combined value of approximately Rs 35,000 crore and include data centres, advanced electronics manufacturing units, commercial real estate, logistics and institutional developments.

The proposed investment builds on Noida’s existing industrial and technology base. The report states that the city contributes about 10 per cent of Uttar Pradesh’s gross state domestic product and accounts for around 60 per cent of the state’s electronics and information technology exports. It also identifies Samsung, Dixon, TCS, Infosys, HCL, Microsoft and Adobe among the major companies with a presence in the city.

The scale of the proposal places land acquisition, transport planning and industrial infrastructure at the centre of Noida’s next phase of growth. For residents and businesses, the practical impact will depend on how the authority sequences land assembly, trunk infrastructure, freight facilities, metro approvals and civic services across the proposed expansion area.

Noida Authority Chief Executive Officer Krishna Karunesh said the authority was working to take Noida to new heights across sectors and attract more large investors. He said better connectivity and modern facilities would receive particular attention in the development of the new Noida. The next reported steps are the phased start of land acquisition and the advancement of projects linked to the fifth Ground Breaking Ceremony.
