Noida Metro Expansion Gains Momentum With Aqua Line Extension
Noida Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRC) has awarded a ₹1,234 crore civil construction contract for expanding the Aqua Line network, marking a major step towards improving public transport links across Noida and Greater Noida. The project will add elevated corridors and 10 new stations across two extensions, strengthening connectivity between residential clusters, commercial zones, and future transport hubs in the expanding NCR region.
The contract involves the design and construction of elevated viaducts and stations for two planned stretches — Botanical Garden to Sector 142 in Noida and Depot Station to Boraki Multimodal Transport Hub (MMTH) in Greater Noida. The work has been assigned with a completion timeline of 1,096 days. The Noida Metro expansion is expected to reshape daily mobility patterns in areas witnessing rapid urban growth. The Botanical Garden-Sector 142 corridor, spanning around 11.56 km, will create a stronger connection between one of Noida’s key interchange points and emerging residential and employment districts. Botanical Garden currently serves as a crucial link with Delhi Metro’s Blue and Magenta lines, connecting commuters towards central Delhi and other parts of the capital region. Urban planners believe that extending high-capacity public transport towards growing sectors can reduce dependence on private vehicles, helping address congestion and emissions challenges. The Noida Metro expansion also holds significance for regional economic integration.
Better transit access between Noida, Greater Noida, and upcoming infrastructure zones such as Jewar Airport could influence future residential development, commercial activity, and employment mobility. However, experts note that transport expansion must be supported by pedestrian infrastructure, last-mile connectivity, and inclusive access to ensure benefits reach daily commuters. The Botanical Garden-Sector 142 section will include eight stations covering key locations such as Sector 44, Sector 96, Sector 97, Sector 105, Sector 108, Sector 93, and Panchsheel Balak Inter College area. The corridor is designed to improve access across densely developing parts of Noida while reducing travel friction for residents and workers. The second section, connecting Depot Station to Boraki MMTH, will cover a shorter stretch with two stations at Junpat and Boraki. The corridor is planned to integrate with the proposed transport hub, which aims to bring together railway connectivity, bus services, and metro operations at a single location.
Infrastructure analysts suggest that integrated transport systems will play a critical role in managing NCR’s urban expansion. As cities continue to grow outward, investments in mass transit can support more compact development patterns and reduce environmental pressures associated with automobile-led growth. The next phase will involve construction progress, project monitoring, and coordination between agencies to ensure timely delivery. The long-term impact of the corridor will depend not only on infrastructure completion but also on how effectively it connects people with homes, workplaces, and essential services.
