Noida Elevated Road Extended to Sector 60 to Ease Key Traffic Bottleneck

Noida Authority has approved an alignment for a 5.49-kilometre, six-lane elevated road from near the Rajnigandha underpass in Sector 3 to Sector 60, extending the proposed route to address connectivity and congestion concerns across central Noida. IIT Roorkee has submitted the alignment report and will now prepare the detailed project report (DPR).

The elevated road will be built along Master Plan Road-1. It will begin near the Rajnigandha underpass in Sector 3 and descend near Block A in Sector 60. According to Noida Authority officials cited by Live Hindustan, IIT Roorkee has been instructed to complete the DPR within about two months.

The alignment was revised after a joint survey by IIT Roorkee and the Authority. The earlier plan was to begin the elevated road near Sector 3, after the Sector 16 underpass, and end it near the Sector 57 intersection. The survey found that bringing the road down near Sector 57 could create congestion in front of Sectors 57 and 58 and would not fully resolve the area’s connectivity problems.

Under the revised alignment, vehicles will be able to continue from Sector 60 towards Sectors 73, 121, 59, 62 and 63, as well as towards Ghaziabad. The proposed route will also be located near the existing elevated road along the Master Plan Road-2 corridor. The Authority has not announced a construction start date or project cost in the information available.

The project is part of a wider expansion of elevated and grade-separated infrastructure in Noida. Two elevated roads have already been completed, while work on a third is under way. The first was built along the Master Plan Road-2 route in 2017. The Bhangel elevated road on DSC Road was opened in November last year, while construction of the Chilla elevated road is continuing.

The alignment decision indicates that the Authority is attempting to avoid shifting congestion from one intersection to another. The central issue now moves from route selection to project preparation, funding, construction and the design of entry and exit points. Those details will be established through the DPR, which is expected to be prepared by IIT Roorkee within the stated two-month period.

The Authority is also preparing to open the underpass at Char Murti, or Gaur Chowk, in Greater Noida West before Diwali. Civil work has been completed, while finishing, lighting, beautification and the installation of shelters at the entry and exit points are under way. Officials said arrangements were also being made to prevent waterlogging.

The underpass is expected to improve movement between Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, particularly around the housing societies near Gaur City. The source reported that more than two lakh residents in the surrounding societies could benefit, especially during the festive period when traffic pressure in Greater Noida West usually rises. The Authority has set a target of opening the facility before Diwali, subject to completion of the remaining works.
