The proposed Namо Bharat regional rapid transit corridor linking Noida International Airport in Jewar with Faridabad and Gurugram has crossed a key planning milestone after its Detailed Project Report (DPR) received approval from a committee led by the Meerut Divisional Commissioner. The proposal will now move through state and central government approval processes, marking a significant step towards reshaping mobility across one of India’s fastest-growing urban regions.
The 64-km corridor, estimated at nearly ₹19,390 crore, is planned as a cross-state transport network connecting western Uttar Pradesh with major employment and business hubs in Haryana. The project is expected to reduce dependence on road-based travel and create a faster public transport alternative for residents, workers, and passengers travelling between emerging urban centres. The Noida Airport Namо Bharat Corridor is designed to integrate multiple growth zones rather than serve only airport connectivity. In Uttar Pradesh, the alignment will connect Siddharth Vihar in Ghaziabad with Greater Noida, Surajpur, Dankaur and Jewar airport. In Haryana, the route will extend through areas including Faridabad and Gurugram before reaching IFFCO Chowk, one of the region’s busiest commercial locations. Urban planners believe such regional transit links can influence how cities expand by encouraging development around mass mobility networks instead of increasing pressure on highways and private vehicles.
A well-connected public transport system could support more balanced growth between established business districts and newer urban areas developing around the airport region. The Noida Airport Namо Bharat Corridor also highlights the growing need for climate-conscious infrastructure planning in the National Capital Region. Shifting a larger share of daily travel towards high-capacity public transport could help address congestion, reduce transport-related emissions and improve accessibility for people who do not rely on private vehicles. However, experts note that the success of such large-scale connectivity projects will depend on last-mile integration, pedestrian-friendly station areas and affordable access for daily commuters. Transit infrastructure alone cannot deliver inclusive mobility unless surrounding neighbourhoods are planned around safe walking routes, local transport links and mixed-use development.
The corridor is also expected to influence real estate and economic activity along its alignment. Improved regional connectivity may encourage investment in industrial, residential and commercial zones, but planners emphasise that expansion must be managed carefully to protect ecological assets and prevent unplanned urban sprawl. With the DPR moving towards higher-level approvals, the next phase will determine implementation timelines, funding arrangements and construction planning. For citizens across the NCR, the project represents a potential shift towards a more connected and efficient regional transport system, provided future development remains focused on accessibility, sustainability and balanced urban growth.
