Nizamabad’s National Lok Adalat settled 6,649 cases pending at police stations across the district, including 71 cybercrime cases in which orders were issued for the return of Rs 24,02,552 lost by victims to cyber fraudsters, police commissioner P. Sai Chaitanya said on Sunday.
The cases were settled through compromise between the parties during the Lok Adalat held up to September 12. The settlements covered 462 cases registered under the Indian Penal Code, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and special and local laws, along with 3,109 e-petty cases and 3,007 cases related to daily diary entries and the Motor Vehicles Act.
In the cybercrime matters, copies of the refund orders were forwarded to the concerned bank nodal officers. The step is intended to facilitate the return of the recovered money to the victims whose funds were lost in online fraud incidents.
The settlement figures show the range of disputes processed through the event, from cases under criminal and special laws to petty matters and traffic-related cases. The compromise-based process allowed eligible cases to be resolved after agreement between the parties, according to the commissioner.
Sai Chaitanya said the Lok Adalat offered an opportunity to resolve disputes and correct mistakes committed during moments of anger. He advised people against becoming involved in unnecessary disputes that could adversely affect their lives and said that compromise was the best way forward in cases eligible for mutual settlement.
The commissioner also urged people who become victims of cyber fraud to immediately call 1930 or file a complaint through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. He congratulated personnel from the Crime Records and Criminal Investigation Bureau, court duty and cyber cells, along with other officers and staff, for their role in conducting the National Mega Lok Adalat.
The immediate administrative step in the cybercrime cases is the processing of the refund orders by the concerned bank nodal officers. The police advisory remains that victims should report cyber fraud without delay through the 1930 helpline or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
