A road renovation and widening push is set to strengthen connectivity between the Devipatan and Ayodhya divisions, with Divisional Commissioner Durga Shakti Nagpal seeking comprehensive work on National Highway 330 and a 19.2-km stretch of State Highway 30 in Gonda district.
The Ayodhya-Gonda-Balrampur section of NH-330 is a key inter-district route, but its road surface has deteriorated despite periodic patchwork repairs. The last comprehensive renovation was carried out in 2020-21. Nagpal has written to the Government of India, the principal secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department and the secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, seeking action on the proposed projects.
According to the report, an estimate for a performance-based maintenance contract for NH-330 has already been submitted. The proposed renovation is intended to improve driving conditions, address the highway’s maintenance needs and provide safer and smoother journeys for motorists and daily commuters. The commissioner has also cited the road’s increasing traffic burden while urging authorities to undertake comprehensive maintenance rather than rely on periodic repairs.
The second proposal covers the Bahraich-Faizabad-Azamgarh Road, designated as State Highway 30. The identified section in Gonda runs from chainage 42.900 to 62.100 and is currently seven metres wide. The proposal seeks to increase its width to 10 metres. The corresponding section of the highway in Bahraich district has already been widened, leaving the Gonda stretch with a different road width along the route.
The road serves commuters travelling between Bahraich, Shrawasti and Ayodhya and is an important transport link for the Gonda Sadar and Katra Bazar assembly constituencies. The corridor also carries frequent heavy vehicles transporting construction materials, adding to traffic pressure and travel difficulties.
Several public facilities are located along or near the proposed widening stretch, including the Gonda Sadar tehsil, Gonda municipality, educational institutions, healthcare centres and Kotwali police station. The proposal is therefore expected to support access to public services while improving traffic management and road safety along the corridor.
The proposed widening of State Highway 30 received approval from the expenditure finance committee on September 17, 2026. However, the project has not yet reached implementation. It still requires administrative and financial sanctions, after which the concerned authorities will have to take forward the remaining process.
The initiatives are expected to benefit education, healthcare, trade, transport and other economic activities across the adjoining districts. Their immediate status remains dependent on the completion of the required approvals. Nagpal has begun correspondence with the concerned authorities to expedite that process for both the highway renovation and the widening proposal.
