Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is moving closer to its 2025 launch with significant operational preparations underway. One crucial step in this process is the testing of Aviation Turbine Fuel (JET A-1) for use at the airport. To facilitate this, Navi Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (NMIAL) has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to identify a vendor authorized by the Government of India and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to supply aviation turbine fuel.
The selected vendor will play a critical role in supporting the airport’s readiness for operations by supplying fuel needed for essential testing at the airport’s fuel farm. This testing phase is a key milestone as the airport progresses toward becoming fully operational. The successful completion of these tests will ensure that NMIA is ready for the first commercial flight, expected in early 2025.
In addition to the fuel supply tender, NMIA recently made strides in its aeronautical infrastructure with the completion of testing for the Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) system. This system is vital for ensuring that pilots maintain the correct glide slope during landings, enhancing safety at the airport. With the successful calibration of the PAPI system, the South Runway is now ready to conduct flight trials. The airport’s first commercial aircraft landing is projected for early 2025, following the completion of these trials. Once operational, NMIA is expected to ease the air traffic congestion in the Mumbai metropolitan region and strengthen regional connectivity, making it a pivotal addition to India’s aviation infrastructure. As the project moves forward, the selection of a reliable fuel vendor is one of the final steps to ensure that the airport is fully prepared for its upcoming launch.
