Navi Mumbai Airport Adds Nine Destinations, Expanding MMR Connectivity

Navi Mumbai International Airport has added nine domestic destinations to its network, expanding air connectivity from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region to tourism, heritage and regional economic centres across India, according to an official statement.

The new destinations are Agatti, via Goa-Mopa, Darbhanga, Guwahati, Jalgaon, Jodhpur, Ranchi, Bagdogra, Sindhudurg and Udaipur. The expanded network includes island and coastal destinations, heritage cities, ecotourism locations and regional commercial centres.

The Agatti connection via Goa-Mopa gives passengers from the MMR access to Lakshadweep. The Sindhudurg route strengthens links to Maharashtra’s Konkan coast, known for its beaches and forts. Darbhanga and Guwahati provide connections to Bihar’s Mithila region and Assam, as well as tourism destinations across the north-east.

The airport said the Jalgaon route would improve access to north Maharashtra and the Ajanta heritage circuit. Ranchi connects travellers to Jharkhand’s waterfalls and ecotourism attractions, while Jodhpur and Udaipur strengthen links to Rajasthan’s heritage destinations and wedding tourism market. Bagdogra serves as a gateway to North Bengal, the Himalayan foothills and tea-growing areas.

The additions come as the airport expands its operational base. Since beginning operations, Navi Mumbai International Airport has recorded 27,185 scheduled aircraft movements, including 27,111 domestic and 74 international movements, the official statement said.

The airport has handled 3,588,675 passengers during the same period. Domestic travellers accounted for 3,580,233 passengers, while international passenger traffic stood at 8,442. The airport also reported an expansion in general aviation and cargo operations.

Its international freighter network has grown within less than three months of the launch of international cargo operations, according to the statement. The network now includes 18 airlines serving 45 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

The carriers include passenger airlines such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, Lufthansa, Air France and Turkish Airlines, along with specialist cargo operators including AeroLogic, Atlas Air and DHL. The airport’s passenger and cargo expansion is positioning it as an additional aviation gateway for the Mumbai region, alongside its growing domestic route network.

The airport’s next phase of connectivity will depend on the continued operation of the newly added routes and the expansion of passenger and freight services across its domestic and international networks.
