Nashik Roads to Be Repaired After MNGL Pipeline Works Post Diwali

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has announced that it will commence repairing road trenches dug by Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) for the installation of piped natural gas (PNG) pipelines across the city after Diwali. Contractors have been issued work orders worth ₹70 crore to restore damaged roads, signalling a major civic infrastructure push aimed at improving commuter safety and road quality.

Extensive excavation across multiple city areas by MNGL had caused significant deterioration of road conditions, leading to public inconvenience. Originally, NMC had set a completion deadline of 15 May for MNGL’s excavation work. While the firm paid road damage charges in line with regulations, heavy monsoon rains from early May to the first week of October delayed repair work. Officials explained that the city’s asphalt plants were closed during the monsoon season and could only resume operations after rains subsided. “The repair works will now begin post-Diwali as contractors are ready and work orders are in place,” a senior NMC official said. The restoration plan includes resurfacing roads, filling trenches, and ensuring long-term durability in line with modern urban infrastructure standards.

The municipal corporation has also been actively addressing pothole issues citywide. NMC’s public works department has begun repairing potholes across all six divisions, following strict deadlines set by civic authorities. Experts highlighted that timely maintenance of roads following utility work is critical for urban mobility, safety, and the minimisation of vehicular damage, particularly in rapidly growing cities like Nashik. Resident groups had actively engaged with NMC officials to expedite repairs, emphasising that prolonged poor road conditions affected daily commuting and local businesses. Civic experts note that collaboration between utility companies and municipal authorities, backed by structured repair schedules and adequate funding, is essential for sustainable urban infrastructure management.

The NMC’s Rs 70 crore investment in post-pipeline road restoration not only addresses immediate commuter safety but also reflects a broader commitment to sustainable urban planning. By ensuring roads are repaired efficiently, the city aims to maintain eco-friendly transport corridors and enhance civic convenience without prolonged disruption to traffic flow. As Nashik prepares for Diwali festivities, residents can expect smoother commutes and safer road conditions. While the initiative promises immediate relief, urban planners stress the importance of integrating long-term maintenance strategies alongside utility projects to safeguard city infrastructure.
