Nashik Municipal Corporation has given civic departments and utility agencies eight days to complete pending and proposed underground works along the Tapovan–Ramkund route, a key corridor for the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela. Road construction on the stretch will begin after the deadline, according to a communication issued by the civic body’s public works department.
The route will carry seers travelling from Sadhugram to Ramkund for the three Amrit Snans during the Kumbh Mela, which is scheduled between August and September next year. The corridor is among the infrastructure works being prepared for the large religious congregation in Nashik.
The Nashik Municipal Corporation has instructed agencies responsible for water supply, drainage, electricity, streetlighting, telecom networks, information technology infrastructure and other utilities to immediately identify and execute all underground works required along the route. Agencies have also been asked to inform the civic body about any pending proposals within the stipulated period.
A senior civic official said agencies that failed to complete their works or notify the NMC about pending requirements within eight days would be treated as having no requirements on the stretch. The deadline is intended to ensure that utility-related excavation is completed before the road is developed.
The civic body has also warned that no permission will be granted to excavate the newly developed road later for laying or repairing utility lines. This condition places the responsibility on the concerned agencies to coordinate their requirements before road construction begins, rather than seeking access after the corridor has been completed.
The decision addresses a recurring infrastructure coordination problem in which newly built roads are reopened for utility installation or repairs. By requiring underground work to be identified in advance, the NMC is attempting to sequence utility construction before surface road development on a route expected to experience substantial movement during the Kumbh period.
The Tapovan–Ramkund corridor is part of the preparations for the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela. The event’s flag-hoisting ceremony is scheduled for October 31, according to the report. The eight-day deadline therefore marks an immediate implementation milestone for the route, with roadwork set to follow once the utility window closes.
