Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has inaugurated road and drainage infrastructure projects worth around Rs 25 crore in Najafgarh, with the Delhi government saying the works will improve civic amenities and address local requirements.
The projects were launched under the government’s Seva Sankalp Abhiyan and are intended to improve road conditions and strengthen drainage infrastructure in the area. The announcement covers works aimed at improving road connectivity and addressing drainage-related civic needs for residents.
“From better roads and drains to stronger drainage infrastructure, these projects will strengthen civic amenities and make everyday life easier for the people of Najafgarh,” Gupta said while addressing a gathering.
The Chief Minister also said that 10 other projects involving an expenditure of Rs 33 crore are currently underway across seven unauthorised colonies in Najafgarh. These projects are separate from the works inaugurated during the event and are being implemented as part of the government’s wider infrastructure programme in the area.
Gupta said the government had also taken up projects that had remained stalled under the previous government. “Along with the projects we have inaugurated today, we have also taken up projects that had come to a halt under the previous government,” she said.
The announcement places road and drainage works at the centre of the government’s infrastructure push in Najafgarh, an area where basic civic services are being addressed through projects across authorised and unauthorised settlements. The government said the works were selected to respond to local requirements related to connectivity and drainage.
Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said the government was examining a proposal for an elevated road along Najafgarh-Phirni Road. The proposal is intended to ease traffic congestion in the area, although the government has not announced a final approval, construction schedule or project cost for the elevated road.
The road and drainage projects form part of the ongoing Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, under which the Delhi government is taking up infrastructure and civic works in different parts of the city. In Najafgarh, the announced programme includes the projects inaugurated by the Chief Minister and the 10 works currently under implementation across seven unauthorised colonies.
The government has not provided further details on the specific roads, drainage components, completion timelines or executing agencies for the projects in the announcement. The next milestones will depend on the progress of the ongoing works and the government’s examination of the proposed elevated road along Najafgarh-Phirni Road.
