South Western Railway will operate weekly Mysuru-Rameswaram special trains from October 5 to November 30 to manage the expected rise in passenger demand during Dasara, Deepavali and Chhath. The service will run for nine trips in each direction and connect Mysuru with key cities and towns across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Train No. 06263, the Mysuru-Rameswaram Weekly Express Special, will leave Mysuru at 6.35 pm every Monday from October 5. It will reach Rameswaram at 11 am the following day, Tuesday. The service will continue until November 30.
In the return direction, Train No. 06264 will depart from Rameswaram at 3.30 pm every Tuesday from October 6. It will arrive in Mysuru at 7.45 am the next day, Wednesday. The timings are designed to provide an overnight connection between the two cities during the peak festive travel period.
According to the South Western Railway release, the special train will stop at Mandya, Ramanagaram, Kengeri, Bengaluru, Bengaluru Cantonment, Hosur, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Dindigul, Madurai, Manamadurai, Paramakkudi and Ramanathapuram in both directions.
The route will provide a direct rail connection between Mysuru and Rameswaram while also serving major urban centres such as Bengaluru, Salem and Madurai. For passengers travelling from Mysuru and nearby districts, the additional service offers an alternative to regular trains and road travel during a period when demand typically rises around major festivals.
The announcement also expands the number of intermediate travel options along the corridor. Passengers boarding at stations including Mandya, Ramanagaram, Kengeri, Bengaluru and Bengaluru Cantonment will be able to use the service for journeys towards southern Tamil Nadu. Stations in the return direction will receive the same scheduled service from Rameswaram towards Mysuru.
Railways routinely introduce special services during high-demand periods to add temporary capacity on busy routes. In this case, the service covers the Dasara, Deepavali and Chhath travel window, with the first departure from Mysuru scheduled before the main Deepavali period and operations continuing through the end of November.
The service will run weekly rather than daily, with departures fixed on Mondays from Mysuru and Tuesdays from Rameswaram. South Western Railway has announced the train numbers, operating dates, departure and arrival timings and stoppages in its release. The next operational milestone is the commencement of the Mysuru-bound service from Rameswaram on October 6.
