Mysuru Railway Division Achieves Major Milestones

The Mysuru Division of South Western Railway recently showcased its impressive infrastructure progress and financial performance in conjunction with the 78th Independence Day celebrations. Key highlights from the division’s achievements underscore a robust period of growth and development.

Divisional Railway Manager reported notable freight and passenger metrics for the financial year to date. Between April and July 2024, the division achieved a commendable freight loading of 6.7 million tonnes, generating a substantial revenue of Rs542.39 crore. A significant contributor to this revenue was the transport of 19 rakes of iron ore intended for export, which alone accrued Rs57.06 crore. Additionally, the division saw a dramatic 183.3% increase in the loading of automobile rakes compared to the previous year, reflecting a strong surge in industrial activity.

On the passenger front, the division transported 19.02 million passengers within the same period, resulting in a revenue of Rs242.89 crore. The operational efficiency of the division is further highlighted by a punctuality rate of 94% up to July 2024. To manage the increased passenger demand and alleviate congestion, the division augmented services with 52 temporary and 23 permanent coaches and added 7 extra coaches to various trains. Infrastructure development remains a cornerstone of the division’s strategy. Under the “Amrit Bharat Stations Scheme,” foundation stones have been laid for the redevelopment of fifteen stations, with an estimated expenditure of Rs385 crore. Furthermore, significant progress has been made in electrification, marked by the commissioning of two Traction Substations at Ramgiri and Mandagere in the Mysuru-Hassan section.

In addition to these developments, 24 major projects have been sanctioned, valued at Rs110 crore. These include yard upgrades at Mysuru, Ashokapuram, Hassan, and Naganahalli stations, the creation of additional running lines at Belagula and Krishnarajanagar, and the installation of essential facilities at 46 level crossing gates and 38 stations. Other notable projects include the approval for a new freight terminal at Haliyuru near Chitradurga, the development of Sasalu freight terminal, and a new bypass line linking the Birur-Hubballi line with the Birur-Talguppa line. Environmental initiatives, such as planting over 7,000 saplings on World Environment Day and installing 691 prepaid smart energy meters in staff quarters, further illustrate the division’s commitment to sustainability.

Overall, the Mysuru Railway Division’s achievements in infrastructure and revenue generation reflect its ongoing dedication to enhancing railway operations and serving the region’s growing needs.
