Mysuru Opens Sayyajirao Road Subway to Improve Pedestrian Safety

The Mysuru City Corporation has opened the Sayyajirao Road pedestrian subway for public use from Saturday, providing pedestrians with a safer way to cross a road where vehicle movement has increased.

The subway was constructed by the civic body to improve public convenience and support safer movement along Sayyajirao Road. The facility is intended to reduce the need for pedestrians to cross the busy road at surface level.

The corporation has installed closed-circuit television cameras in the subway to strengthen public safety. Dustbins have also been placed inside the facility to support cleanliness, while wall paintings have been added to improve its appearance.

Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner M.K. Savitha urged members of the public to use the pedestrian subway while crossing Sayyajirao Road. She also appealed to users to help maintain the facility’s cleanliness and appearance.

The opening places responsibility on both the civic administration and users to keep the facility safe and functional. CCTV monitoring, waste disposal arrangements and regular upkeep will be important to ensure that the subway remains usable for pedestrians, particularly as traffic volumes on the road continue to shape crossing conditions.

The corporation has not provided details in the report on the subway’s construction cost, length, capacity or CCTV monitoring arrangements. For now, the facility is open for public use and pedestrians have been advised to use it when crossing Sayyajirao Road.
