Bengaluru Traffic Jam Worsens as Dasara Rush Meets Rain

Bengaluru traffic jam conditions worsened across the city’s major outward routes as Dasara travellers left for their hometowns, with rain adding to congestion on Friday and Saturday. Long queues were reported on Tumakuru Road, Mysuru Road, Hosur Road and Ballari Road, while railway stations and bus terminals saw heavy passenger movement.

Traffic was particularly slow between Goraguntepalya and Nagasandra on Tumakuru Road, with vehicle queues extending towards Nelamangala. Vehicles heading towards Mysuru also took considerable time to reach the expressway. Traffic queues were reported on the Peenya flyover, while the Majestic area witnessed heavy congestion on Saturday night.

The rush coincided with large-scale holiday travel from Bengaluru to destinations including Dharmasthala, Udupi, Mangaluru, Horanadu and Sringeri. According to the report, lakhs of people travelled in private cars and two-wheelers on Friday and Saturday nights, leaving vehicles stranded in slow-moving traffic for extended periods.

Rain that began on Saturday evening made the situation more difficult. Although the rainfall was not described as heavy, waterlogging on some roads slowed vehicles further. Drizzle continued until late at night, adding to the difficulty faced by motorists and passengers already caught in congestion.

The movement of passengers was also visible at Bengaluru’s railway stations and bus terminals. Bengaluru railway station, Shantinagar bus station and Yeshwanthpur railway station reported heavy crowds. Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation buses and private services were packed with passengers travelling out of the city.

The state transport corporation had arranged special Dasara services, including Karnataka Sarige, Rajahamsa, sleeper services, Airavata, Airavata Club Class multi-axle buses, EV Power Plus, Ambari Club Class, Ambari Utsav and Pallakki services. These buses operated towards several cities during the festival travel period.

The congestion also extended along Hosur Road and Ballari Road, where a large number of private vehicles moved towards destinations outside Bengaluru. Police personnel worked to manage traffic flow on the affected routes, while railway stations and bus terminals were provided with increased security arrangements.

The reported disruption highlights the concentrated pressure placed on Bengaluru’s road network when private vehicle travel, intercity bus movement, rail passengers and weather-related road slowdowns coincide. The immediate congestion was recorded on Friday and Saturday, with police managing traffic and transport agencies operating additional services during the Dasara rush.
