Mysuru’s Dasara Jamboo Savari is set to proceed on Wednesday after preparations were completed for the main procession, with 48,000 seats arranged inside the palace premises and lakhs of visitors expected along the ceremonial route. The event will bring together cultural tableaux, military bands, decorated vehicles and senior political and public figures.
The procession will be preceded by the Nandidhwaja puja at the Balarama Gate of Mysuru Palace. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar is scheduled to perform the puja between 1.36 pm and 1.56 pm, marking the formal beginning of the Jamboo Savari.
Access to programmes inside the palace complex has been restricted to dignitaries, invitees and people holding gold cards, tickets or passes. The seating arrangement has been planned for 48,000 people. The administration has also permitted tableaux from 15 districts this year. Air Force and Navy tableaux, along with a military music band, are among the features listed for the procession.
District officials said 150 members of the Kannada film industry, including actors, producers and directors, will participate in the procession from a decorated vehicle. Mysuru Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth said separate seating had been arranged for the participating artists. Their inclusion is one of the special features planned for this year’s Dasara procession.
The event is expected to draw large crowds to the city’s ceremonial avenue, where cultural troupes and tableaux will present themes reflecting Karnataka’s heritage and achievements. The scale of the gathering places substantial importance on controlled access to the palace, seating arrangements and the movement of visitors along the procession route, although the report did not provide detailed information on traffic diversions or public transport arrangements.
The report said ambassadors and representatives from 11 countries were welcomed by Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy and Additional Deputy Commissioner R. Aishwarya ahead of the procession. It also listed 12 foreign ambassadors among those expected to attend, along with Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara, member of the erstwhile royal family and MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, District Minister in charge Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah, Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj S. Thangadagi and MLA T.S. Srivatsa were also expected to participate.
A Vajramushti Kalaga event that was scheduled before the Jamboo Savari inside the palace premises was cancelled because of a reported lack of coordination. The administration’s next scheduled milestone is the Nandidhwaja puja, after which the main procession will begin from the palace route.
