The Mysuru Dasara flower show will open at Kuppanna Park on October 11 with a democracy-themed display featuring a 42-foot-wide, 15-foot-high floral replica of the Vidhana Soudha, alongside representations of the Constitution and the Ashoka Chakra.
The exhibition, organised by the Department of Horticulture at the park’s Glass House near Harding Circle, will continue until October 21. The department expects thousands of visitors each day and has prepared arrangements for crowd management and display installation.
The theme was finalised following instructions from the district minister in charge to present the beauty and significance of democracy through the Dasara flower show, Horticulture Department Deputy Director Roopashree told Prajavani. Floral installations will also depict the state government’s five guarantee schemes — Shakti, Gruha Lakshmi, Gruha Jyothi, Yuvanidhi and Anna Bhagya — as well as Dasara elephants and Chamundeshwari, the presiding deity associated with Mysuru Dasara.
The department has awarded the exhibition contract for ₹48 lakh. Installation inside the Glass House is scheduled to begin on October 2, while arrangements in the wider park will start on October 5. The display will include 25 varieties of flowers, with special varieties being brought from locations including Ooty and Pune.
Around 75,000 flower pots prepared in department nurseries will be used across the exhibition. In addition to ornamental displays, visitors will be introduced to garden cultivation, its benefits and the government facilities available for such crops. The programme is therefore designed not only as a seasonal attraction but also as a public outreach platform for horticulture and home food production.
A kitchen garden will be developed for the first time as part of the exhibition. It will demonstrate how households can grow leafy vegetables and nutrient-rich produce in backyards or on terraces. The initiative is intended to familiarise visitors with the practical possibilities of small-scale household cultivation in urban settings.
Entry has been fixed at ₹60 for adults and ₹30 for children above six years. Children arriving in uniform will be allowed free entry between 9 am and 1 pm. A green canopy is also planned at the entrance to the Glass House.
The exhibition will open on the day of the Mysuru Dasara inauguration and remain accessible to visitors until October 21, according to the Horticulture Department. The department is completing the flower-pot arrangements and installation work ahead of the opening.
