Mundamveli P&T Flat Faces Fresh Court Scrutiny Over Resident Safety

A Kerala High Court-appointed amicus curiae visited the Mundamveli P&T flats in Kochi to assess complaints linked to the apartment’s construction and the difficulties faced by its residents, according to a report by Mathrubhumi – Kochi.

Officials from the revenue department, the Greater Cochin Development Authority and the Kochi Corporation accompanied the amicus curiae during the inspection. The team examined different parts of the apartment complex and sought details from residents about their living conditions and the problems they continue to face.

Members of the residents’ action committee showed the team the reported deficiencies in the building and explained the difficulties experienced by occupants. The inspection was conducted in connection with a case involving the Perandoor Canal, which is already under consideration by the court.

The court has previously intervened in matters concerning the construction of the flats, as well as delays in completing and handing over the apartments. The latest visit was intended to provide the court with a direct assessment of the current situation at the complex, the report said.

The residents’ association told the amicus curiae that a vigilance investigation was currently the only process moving forward. Association president Abhilash P. Parameswaran also said that urgent discussions on residents’ safe accommodation and rehabilitation were not taking place, according to the report.

Rukmini Murukan, Vinaya K. Jose and Tara Suresh were among those who explained the residents’ concerns to the visiting team. Their accounts focused on the condition of the building and the everyday difficulties associated with living there.

The inspection adds a fresh on-site record to a dispute that has already involved court intervention, delays in project completion and concerns over the adequacy of residents’ living conditions. The supplied report does not state whether the amicus curiae has submitted a report to the High Court or whether the court has issued fresh directions following the visit.
