Nevertheless, urban planners caution that an extended delay in monsoon rainfall could place additional pressure on regional water resources, increasing the likelihood of broader conservation measures if reservoir levels fail to recover. The evolving situation has also renewed attention on the role of recycled water in supporting urban development. Water resource specialists argue that treated wastewater should become a mainstream resource for construction, landscaping, road maintenance and other non-potable applications, thereby preserving freshwater supplies for households and essential public services. Expanding decentralised water recycling infrastructure within large developments could also reduce long-term dependence on municipal supplies during future periods of water stress.
