Mumbai Warehouse Fire in Malad Contained Without Injuries

A fire broke out at a wooden warehouse on Anand Road in Malad West on Monday night, with the blaze confined to wooden planks and cardboard stock stored on the ground floor of a ground-plus-two-storey structure, according to the Mumbai civic body. No injuries were reported.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade received information about the incident at around 9 pm on November 2 and classified it as a Level-I call at 9.13 pm. The warehouse is located near Ruia Marriage Hall and Vallabhdas Nagraj School in Malad West.

According to fire brigade officials, the fire remained confined to wooden planks and cardboard stored on the ground floor. The materials involved are combustible, but the supplied civic account did not report damage beyond the affected stock or any impact on the upper floors of the building.

Mumbai Fire Brigade personnel, police staff, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Solid Waste Management workers and ward staff were mobilised to the site. The source report said relief operations were underway after the fire was reported.

The incident brought together multiple civic and emergency-response agencies because the warehouse is located in an active Malad West neighbourhood near a marriage hall and a school. The authorities did not report injuries, evacuations or the cause of the fire in the information available.

A separate fire was reported on Monday afternoon at premises housing an electrical shop and a bike service centre in the Wagle Estate area of Thane West. The blaze began at around 12.59 pm in Keni Nagar and affected a plastic shed and documents stored on the mezzanine floor.

The Thane fire also damaged electrical equipment, chemicals and documents. Drums containing Isophthalic Polyester Resin Chemical and Epoxy Polyurethane Paint, along with electric coils and electrical wiring, were completely gutted, according to civic authorities. The slab of the mezzanine floor collapsed during the incident.

Fire brigade and Regional Disaster Management Cell personnel brought the Thane blaze under control. The response team included two water tankers, two fire engines, one high-rise fire vehicle and one rescue vehicle. Disaster Management Cell personnel also reached the site in a pickup vehicle.

Officials from the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited and Wagle Estate Police Station were present at the Thane site. Local corporator Eknath Bhoir also visited the premises. No injuries were reported in that incident either.

The Mumbai civic body and fire brigade had not provided a cause for either fire in the supplied account. Further details on the extent of property damage and any follow-up safety assessment were not immediately available.
