Mumbai Voter List Revision Gets More Time as EC Extends Deadline

Mumbai voters have until October 26 to submit claims, objections and correction requests for the draft electoral rolls after the Election Commission extended the deadline, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said in an official statement on Tuesday. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 16, 2026.

BMC Commissioner and Mumbai District Election Officer Ashwini Bhide urged eligible citizens, including first-time voters, to use the additional time to check their entries and submit the necessary applications. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise covers the BMC area, including Mumbai city and its suburbs.

The draft electoral rolls were published on August 31, 2026. Under the revised schedule, citizens can seek the inclusion of their names, correct existing voter details or file objections to entries in the draft list until October 26.

The extension changes the period available to residents to respond to discrepancies before the final roll is prepared. The BMC has asked eligible voters to review their details and submit claims with the required supporting documents within the revised deadline.

The notice stage and the process for deciding claims and objections will continue from August 31 to November 10, according to the schedule cited by the civic administration. The final electoral roll is expected to be published six days later, on November 16.

The exercise places the BMC in a dual administrative role: the civic body is responsible for carrying out the revision within its jurisdiction, while the Election Commission determines the schedule and oversees the electoral-roll process. Bhide is handling the exercise as the district election officer for Mumbai.

For residents, the process is relevant not only to people who believe their names are missing from the draft list, but also to voters whose personal details require correction and citizens who want to object to an entry. First-time voters have also been specifically asked to submit their applications before the revised deadline.

The BMC’s appeal comes as the claims and objections process moves towards its November 10 closing stage. Applications received by October 26 will be examined during the notice and verification process before the final electoral roll is published on November 16.
