The passenger ferry service between Mumbai’s Bhaucha Dhakka and Revas in Alibaug will resume from Thursday, October 1, after remaining suspended for four months during the monsoon season, according to the Mumbai Water Transport Association. The restart is expected to ease travel difficulties for thousands of passengers travelling towards the Konkan region and reduce pressure on the Karanja-Revas water route in Uran.
Passenger services on the Bhaucha Dhakka-Revas route are suspended every year from May 26 as a precaution during the monsoon. Services are generally restored from September, depending on sea and weather conditions. This year, ferry operations on the Mora-Bhaucha Dhakka and Gateway of India-Mandwa routes resumed in September, while the Bhaucha Dhakka-Revas service remained closed.
Sharafat Mukadam, secretary of the Mumbai Water Transport Association, said the service had not been restarted earlier because of continuously changing weather conditions. The association has now assessed the prevailing conditions as suitable for passenger movement by sea, allowing the Revas service to resume from October 1.
The first ferry from Bhaucha Dhakka is scheduled to depart at 6.30 am on October 1. Further departures are planned at 8 am, 10 am, noon, 4 pm and 5 pm. The ticket fare for the Mumbai-Revas sea route is Rs 100, according to the information released by the association.
The seasonal suspension highlights the operational limits of Mumbai’s coastal passenger network, where ferry services remain closely dependent on weather conditions. Unlike fixed-route road or rail services, sea transport operators may need to alter or suspend schedules when conditions deteriorate, particularly during the monsoon.
For passengers, the resumption restores a direct water connection between south Mumbai and Revas after the seasonal closure. The service also provides an alternative to the Karanja-Revas route, which has carried additional passenger demand while the Bhaucha Dhakka-Revas connection was unavailable.
The Mumbai Water Transport Association has cautioned that ferry timings may change because of weather fluctuations or poor conditions at sea. Passengers using the service from October 1 will therefore need to account for possible schedule changes before travelling. The announced timetable remains subject to operational and weather-related decisions by the association.
