Mumbai Rail Services Face Extended Monsoon Shutdown
Rail connectivity between Mumbai and Pune will remain severely constrained until July 17 after multiple landslides damaged critical railway infrastructure in the Bhor Ghat section, disrupting one of western India’s busiest passenger and freight corridors. The prolonged Mumbai rail disruption underscores the growing vulnerability of transport infrastructure to increasingly intense monsoon events, raising fresh questions about climate resilience and network preparedness. Central Railway has suspended 30 long-distance, inter-city and special train services while restoration teams continue repairing tracks affected by repeated slope failures between Karjat and Lonavala.
