Mumbai Police Deploy 17,000 Personnel for Ganeshotsav Security

Mumbai Police have deployed more than 17,000 personnel across the city for Ganeshotsav 2026, with additional forces, crowd-management teams and traffic arrangements planned for busy routes and Ganesh idol immersion days, according to a senior police official quoted by Mid-Day.

The deployment includes at least seven Additional Commissioners of Police, 37 Deputy Commissioners of Police and 52 Assistant Commissioners of Police. The force also comprises around 2,650 police officers and 14,150 police personnel assigned during the festival period.

Additional security arrangements have been made at important locations across Mumbai. These include platoons of the State Reserve Police Force, Quick Response Teams, Riot Control Teams and Home Guards. Police have also been conducting flag marches along sensitive routes in parts of the city ahead of the celebrations.

The arrangements will be strengthened during the immersion process, when large crowds are expected to gather across Mumbai. Additional personnel will be deployed to manage security and crowd movement during the immersion, the official said.

Ganeshotsav attracts large numbers of devotees to pandals and immersion sites across the city, making crowd movement and public safety a central operational challenge for the police. Officials have also planned traffic arrangements in parts of Mumbai during the festival and on key immersion days, although the supplied report does not specify individual road closures, diversion routes or timings.

Mumbai Police have appealed to citizens to remain calm and exercise restraint, particularly in crowded areas. People have been asked to cooperate with police personnel, follow security instructions and report any unattended or suspicious object immediately.

For immediate police assistance, citizens can contact the Mumbai Police helpline on 100 or 112. The police have said that coordination with citizens and compliance with security directions will be important for ensuring peaceful celebrations across the city.

The security deployment and traffic arrangements will remain focused on the festival period, with additional personnel scheduled for the immersion days when crowd levels are expected to be high.
